As a 12th century fortress, it stands high above the village of Sorano, and you can park with complete
comfort by following the next few steps.
Free parking lot of San Marco
The San Marco free parking lot of Sorano is right outside the walls of the Fortress in Via Ricasoli. It is the
best free place to park your car and it is just a two-minute walk from Hotel della Fortezza. Take the path
on the right of the San Marco parking lot, cross the historic rampart and once you are in Piazza d’Armi,
cross the small bridge. The Reception of Hotel della Fortezza is under the tower. Click here

How to get from the parking lot to the Fortezza by foot?
To simplify the route, we prepared a short video that will easily guide you to Hotel della Fortezza in just

How to get from the parking lot to the Fortezza on foot?
If you have a big luggage and would like to get as close as possible to the hotel, we invite you to get to an area for drop off and pick up your luggage, where it is possible to stay only for a short time. For this reason, once you have dropped your luggage off, we invite you to park your car to the San Marco parking lot.
As you can see on the below the map, it is easy to get to the above mentioned area, but as it is a centenary fortress, the uphill road you will have to drive on is a single-lane stone paved road.
Driving on this medieval road is an experience indeed. Drive carefully and at a low speed. Even though the roadway is very narrow, there are a few parts where you can pull over in case you meet another car driving from the other direction. Below you can find the route from the San Marco parking lot to Piazza d’Armi to drop off and pick up your luggage.
