The parking of Hotel della Fortezza

In this article, you can find all the necessary information to easily find the parking of Hotel della Fortezza.

The hotel is right inside the Orsini Fortress of Sorano and if you want to identify it before your arrival you can search “Fortezza Orsini di Sorano” with your GPS or Google Maps. Since it is inside a real medieval monument, it not allowed to stay inside with the car, but you can reach the internal square of the castle to unload the luggage. Later, it will be necessary to move the car to the external parking area.

 

The external parking of Hotel della Fortezza

The San Marco parking, in via Ricasoli, is only 3 minutes of walk from Hotel della Fortezza. From there, you can easily find the indication for the hotel. With a nice walk in a pedestrian road that leads you through the walls of the fortress, you will be soon inside the castle. Once you cross the walls, you will be in Piazza della Fortezza, a small square with a white stone paving. Now you just need to cross the small bridge and you will be right in front of the hotel.

People often try to drive in the small road that crosses the walls. There are three stakes that forbid the access because that road is only pedestrian.

The San Marco parking is free. Although it is on the street and it is not supervised, we assure that Sorano is a small town, very quiet and safe, where unpleasant events to the parked cars would be considered as exceptional cases.

We suggest this parking area because it is actually really close and at the same height of the hotel. No latches or stairways. Arriving in Sorano, you will see that the Orsini Fortress dominates the village from above, so parking in the main square can be hard, especially if you have luggage.

 

The internal parking for unloading your luggage

For those who need to arrive even closer to the hotel to unload their luggage, we invite all the guests to get in the internal square, Piazza della Fortezza, with the car. At the entrance of the small road that leads to this square, there is a sign in Italian with written “Ingresso vietato ai veicoli non autorizzati”, that means “Forbidden access to not authorized cars”. You are authorized to come in, so don’t worry.

You can find the entrance from the bottom of the fortress, through a single-lane climbing road with stone paving. Drive through this medieval road is a real experience. Be careful while driving and go slow. Despite it is a single lane road, there are few points where you can stop in case you meet a car coming from the opposite direction.

We assure you that this road is practicable with any kind of car. Our laundry-service company arrives each week to unload the linen with their big van and they find no difficulties.

  • Arriving from SS1 (Aurelia), passing through Pitigliano: when you arrive in Sorano, you can find the indication for “Parcheggio San Marco” on your right. For the internal parking area, continue in the direction of the city center; when you reach the second cross turn right in the small road with stone paving.

 

  • Arriving from highway A1, passing through San Quirico: you will find the San Marco parking on your right, along the street, right in front of the cemetery. For the internal parking area, continue in the direction of the center; at the second cross, turn right in the small road with stone paving.

 

  • Arriving from SR2 (Cassia Bis), passing through Montorio: Once arrived in Sorano, you will have the fortress on your left. You can get in the internal square by the small road with stone paving that you can find on your left in the first cross. For the San Marco parking, continue in the direction of San Quirico until you find the parking area along the street on your left, right in front of the cemetery.

 

  • Arriving from Sovana: Follow the indication for “Fortezza Orsini” (there is a sign in the main square). Once you cross the square, you can find the entrance of the internal square at the first cross. For the San Marco parking, continue in the direction of San Quirico until you find the parking area along the street on your left, right in front of the cemetery.
